A chesterfield built wide enough to stop being a chair. Forty-nine inches across, forty-two and a half deep, and only thirty and a half off the floor, so the whole thing sits low and long and quietly talks you out of sitting upright in it.

The arms and the back rise to exactly the same height, one unbroken rolled line traveling arm to back to arm the way a proper chesterfield does. Deep diamond tufting runs across all of it, continuous, with buttons covered in the same linen so nothing interrupts the surface. Press your palm in and the weave answers: a slubby natural flax, matte, a little irregular, the kind of cloth that only gets better as it softens.

The arms roll outward in a heavy scroll, and across the face of each one the linen gathers into soft radiating folds. The outsides are left plain, a single welt seam running the lower edge. Even the apron beneath the cushion is buttoned. One loose boxed seat cushion, deep at twenty-nine and a half inches, low at seventeen and a half. You do not perch in your chair. You go into it.

Care & longevity
Vacuum the tufting with a brush attachment so dust does not settle into the buttons. Blot spills, never rub. Rotate and plump the seat cushion so it settles evenly. Keep out of direct sun to hold the linen's color.
