This sofa is a little dramatic, and it knows it.

The form goes back to 1754, when Thomas Chippendale published his designs for English drawing rooms dreaming of China. Fretwork pierced like lattice windows, legs carved straight and square, a camelback that rises and falls like a held breath.

One arm scrolls high in soft pleated velvet; the other rolls low, deep-buttoned and soft. They don't match, and that's the charm. Each scroll ends in a hand-carved knot of leaves, worn soft by years of hands, ringed in heavy brass.

The velvet is a smoky mauve with a warm caramel undertone, crushed just enough to move between plum and rose as the light shifts. Brass nailheads trace the arms and the apron. Under your hand, the carving is crisp and deep.

It brings richness and depth to a room, a feminine kind of gravity. Something ancestral, and something entirely now.
