A whole town built out of paint. Ochre, rose, teal and brown houses climb the canvas, windows punched in with black, market umbrellas open between them, and at the bottom two yellow buses sit lettered by hand — one SCHOOL BUS, one HOSPITAL BUS. Above it all a cream and pale blue sky moves in thick swirls.

The paint is applied so heavily the surface is nearly relief. Every roof, every window, every letter stands up off the canvas, and the whole thing changes as you move past it.

Duniya Makaranta is Hausa for "the world is a school." The work portrays a small community where one vehicle has to serve as both school bus and hospital transport, and it argues plainly for better conditions for the people living there.
