Iron Pedestal with Stone Top
Tall, thin and almost not there. A stone square held up on four lines of iron.
The frame is forged iron with a dark pitted surface, hammered rather than milled, so no two uprights are quite identical. Circles are worked into the brackets at the top where the frame meets the slab, and an X stretcher low down keeps it rigid. The top is a square of pale stone, cut thick, its edges left unpolished and slightly irregular.
At thirty eight inches it stands taller than a side table and does a different job. A plant with something trailing. A tall vessel. A single sculptural object lifted to eye level where it can actually be seen. Set it in a corner that has gone dead, or beside a doorway, and let the open frame keep the floor visible underneath.
