Carved Openwork Stand
Small enough to hold in one hand, and it changes everything you set on it.
A square of carved hardwood, darkened with age, lifted on four short bracket feet. The apron is pierced in a row of openings that let light pass under whatever sits on top, so the object above seems to float a little. The top is recessed inside a raised lip, cut to hold. Edges have gone soft and the finish is worn through at the corners where hands have found it.
Use it the way a stand is meant to be used. A bowl, a stone, a small bronze, a candle on a night it matters. An inch and a half of height is all it takes to turn an object into something considered.
