Three wide planks make up the top, joined long ago and still holding, the seams visible like fault lines, the surface scored and scarred from decades of hands and cups and elbows. Deep knots freckle the wood, and the edge wears a softly weathered band where age has settled into the grain. Four straight, splayed legs, canted outward for a low and steady stance, carry it just above the floor. Turn it over and you will find the same care that has kept it standing this long: diagonal braces at each corner, fastened by hand, still doing their quiet work.
Picture it low beside a sofa, holding a coffee going cold, a stack of books, a single stem in a glass. Round enough to soften a room, worn enough to ask nothing of you. It does not need protecting. It has already survived far more than a cup ring.
