The top tier opens as a little display gallery, four turned columns holding up a scalloped carved valance, a small carved door tucked at the center. Below, an open niche waits for the books you are actually reading, and a pair of carved doors close over storage on a forged iron ring and a hand-cut lock. Turn to the side and the piece tells the truth about itself, plain weathered planks, dovetailed corners cut by hand, an old iron carry handle worn smooth.
