The Ribbon

A single ribbon of colour, turning down the canvas like a held note.

Blue and rose and a deeper crimson run side by side in one loaded stroke, so the colours stay distinct where they travel together and bleed only where the brush turned. The line crosses itself once near the bottom and finishes in a taper. Everything else is left white. The restraint is the point.

This is the most calligraphic of the set, the one that reads from across a room and still rewards standing close. Put it where you pass often, a hallway, the wall beside a door, somewhere it can catch you mid-stride.

Painted by Leah Mendelson.
