A young woman in profile, eyes closed, chin lifted. The skin is worked in deep reds and browns until it glows, the hair in ridges of blue-black, and the shirt in thick strokes of pale yellow over red. The ground behind is warm olive, flecked with small marks of coral.
The paint is laid on with a knife and stands proud of the canvas, so the surface shifts as the light moves across it through the day.
