The Rose Beetle Side Chair
A dining chair that is beautiful as a sculpture.
The back and seat curve in one continuous shell, divided by a single soft seam down the spine. Rounded and cocooning, the form rises above four slender black metal legs that nearly disappear beneath it, giving the chair a surprising sense of lightness.
Designed by GamFratesi for GUBI in 2013, the Beetle Chair has become one of the most enduring silhouettes in contemporary design. The designers were inspired by the anatomy of a beetle, the way a protective shell surrounds something softer and more vulnerable within. That tension between structure and comfort became the essence of the chair: a sculptural shell with generous padding and a form that moves naturally with the body.
These examples are upholstered in a dusty rose velvet, a muted clay-pink that warms toward terracotta in sunlight and settles into mauve as the light fades. The color feels quietly rich rather than sweet. The shell cups the body with an enveloping back and generous seat, while the tapered black legs hold the soft volume aloft with an effortless elegance.
Beautiful gathered around a dining table, tucked beneath a desk, or used as sculptural accents in a living space, they bring softness, comfort, and a distinct sense of form wherever they land. Sold individually.
