This cabinet glows.

Two doors in black lacquer, drawn over every inch in fine gold leaf. A dense flame-leaf pattern, and moving through it celestial figures in flight, a chariot charging into battle, rows of warriors along the bottom. Likely scenes from the Ramakien, the Thai telling of the Ramayana. Patterned gilt pilasters, a stepped cornice banded in gold florals, and a star-shaped iron lock plate where the doors meet.

It stands on its own stand, with a carved and pierced apron of gilt vines on red lacquer and four square legs.

Open it and the inside is all red. Weathered red lacquer on the backs of the doors, a red lined case with two shelves, room for books, linens, records, a collection you keep close.

It brings ceremony to a room, something dark and gleaming and quietly sacred. Gold that time has softened rather than dulled.

Made in Thailand in the tradition of the cabinets that once kept sacred texts in temple libraries. In good vintage condition, with wear and patina in the gilding consistent with its age. Offered at the Organic Erotic exclusive price of $6,000.
