Night Bloom Lamp

Part lamp, part garden. Ivory petals, gilt leaves, crystal hanging like dew. The stem rises from its gilded base, arcs overhead, and bows into a full metal bloom that opens around the light.

The piece is vintage Italian tole, hand-painted metal in soft ivory brushed with gilt. Leaves curl along the stem the way leaves actually grow, unhurried and a little wild, and from their tips hang teardrops of clear crystal that catch whatever light is near. Strands of glass beads spill from the bloom itself, rain the flower decided to keep.

Lit, it glows from inside the petals. Warm, low, the kind of light that asks nothing of you. Set it on a nightstand, a dresser, the small table where you keep your evening rituals. When the day ends you reach for this switch instead of the overhead, and the room softens by degrees.
