Cloister Table
$350.00
Dark as old lacquer, light as wrought lace. This Victorian two-tier side table carries the full decorative ambition of the Aesthetic Movement in one small, quietly ornate form.
The turned spindle gallery that rings the upper level is its signature. Dozens of bobbin-turned balusters, each capped with a tiny acorn finial, rise from paired arching rails to create a fretwork border that filters light and holds shadow. Ebonized almost to black, the wood has the depth of something aged in darkness. Warm in your palm, cool to the eye.
Set it beside the bed or the armchair. The upper surface holds a candle, a stack of books, a glass of water left overnight. The lower shelf catches what drifts down: a folded cloth, a journal, a phone set face-down. Two levels of living, held quietly in place.
The saber legs splay at a slight outward curve, giving the whole piece a grounded lightness. The joinery is all turned, all considered. Nothing has been simplified. Someone once made this slowly, with intention. It has arrived at you with all of that still intact.
It settles into a corner, a bedside, a reading nook. Wherever it lands, it makes that spot feel like it was always meant to hold something beautiful.
