A small throne, worked entirely in bone. Every inch of this X-frame bench is inlaid by hand, cream bone tessellated into ebonized wood in scrolling vines, five-petal flowers, and small starbursts, so the whole surface reads like lace grown hard.

The silhouette curves like a Roman curule, its legs sweeping down to flared, hoof-shaped feet banded in bone. The arms roll outward and end in carved medallions, cool and smooth under your hand. At the center, a low black velvet seat floats within the frame, dark and plain against all that pattern. Look closely and you find the small proof of age: a hairline seam here, a softened edge there, the quiet evidence of hands other than your own.

Pull it to the end of your bed for the last things before sleep, set it at a vanity, or use it as the seat that catches your coat at the door. It is small enough to move on a whim and substantial enough to matter wherever it lands. It asks to be looked at as much as sat on, and it will hold both roles happily for years to come.
