A wooden school desk worn soft by a hundred years of small hands. The kind of piece that carries its whole life on its surface.

Solid hardwood in a warm honey brown, the grain open and alive, no two boards the same. The rectangular top still holds its two round inkwell wells, bored for the bottles that once sat there, and beneath it an open cubby divided in two, where slates and readers used to live. The legs are hand turned, ringed and tapered, rising from a shaped trestle base with a low stretcher and sled feet that keep it steady on any floor. Run your hand across the top and you feel it all. The ink marks, the soft dents, the pale rings left by cups set down across the years. Nothing here is pretending to be new.

Picture your mornings beside it. A narrow console in the entry with your keys and a candle, a slim desk under a window with a book left open in the cubby, a resting place for a stoneware vessel and a handful of figs. It asks very little and gives a great deal, a quiet anchor of a piece with a story already written into the wood. Live with it, add to its marks, let the afternoon light move across the grain.

A genuine antique, one of a kind, sold as it is with all its honest wear intact. It settles into a room like it has always been there.

Dimensions

36 1/2" W x 19" D x 29" H
Writing top 36 3/4" W x 13" D. One piece, no assembly.

Materials & condition

Solid wood in a warm honey patina, natural aged finish. A genuine antique sold as-is: expect honest wear including ring stains and ink marks on the top, small dents and scratches, and the two original inkwell holes. These are character, not flaws, and part of what makes it one of a kind. Structurally sound and steady on its trestle base.

Care

Dust with a soft dry cloth. Feed the wood with a little clear furniture wax or oil once or twice a year to deepen the patina. Avoid harsh cleaners and prolonged direct sun.

PLEASE NOTE: Shipping costs for furniture items are calculated after purchase. Once your order is confirmed, a shipping invoice will be sent to the email address on file.
