A quiet secret in dark elm. What reads as a slender carved console is hiding a chair inside it, and a writing desk, and a small private order of drawers. One piece that folds open into three.

Draw the carved front out and it becomes a seat. Its back is a panel of hand carved birds and blossoms, worn soft at every ridge, with three deep little drawers set into it for the things you want kept close. A slim board slides out from beneath the top, a writing surface, a place to sort the mail, to set down a pen. The wood is aged elm the color of steeped tea, with old red lacquer still glowing in the recesses and brass ring pulls gone dark under a hundred years of hands. Nothing about it is new, and that is the whole pleasure of it.

Picture your mornings here. Closed against the wall it is a narrow console, a place for a bowl, a candle, a leaning stack of books. Drawn open it is a desk you actually sit at, letters and lists and a warm lamp, the seat worn to exactly your shape, the little board out for whatever the day asks of you. Then folded back into itself when you are done, quiet again, holding its small drawers of treasures until you need them.

A piece that has clearly lived, and wants to go on living. It settles into a room like it has always been there, and asks only that you use it.
