Two small drawers sit above a pair of doors, and every panel is carved with flowers and vines that gather the light in low relief. The red lacquer has aged the way only real things do, rubbed back at the edges to show the pale wood beneath, the gilt tracery faded to a whisper along the black borders. The brass ring pulls have gone soft and golden with time. Run your hand across the top and you feel the whole history of it, the small dents, the smoothed corners, nothing about it pretending to be new.

Materials
Hand-carved wood in aged oxblood-red lacquer over a black ground, with faded gilt detailing and gold-painted florals along the black borders. Aged brass ring pulls on fluted fan backplates, with a worn lock plate and keyhole down the center of the doors. Two drawers over a two-door cabinet on square tapered legs. A genuine antique, with wear, patina, and small losses consistent with age that are part of its character.
