Along its upper edge a blush of mauve rises out of the black, the way a bruise warms at its border. Around it the ground stays open: bare white, a patch of cream, a drift of soft grey blue holding the corner.

There is nothing tentative here. The painting was finished in the time the stroke took, and it still carries that speed. Set it where the eye lands on entering, against plaster or lime wash, and let the white around it do the breathing.

Painted by Leah Mendelson.

Dimensions
20" W x 16" H x 0.75" D

Materials
Acrylic on stretched canvas, unframed, with painted edges.

One of a kind.
